Sampung Sulyap 2013 trailer

The entries for this year's Sampung Sulyap were as follows:

  • Pasion-- The Miguel Deo Montuerto Story
  • Relos-- The Julius Romel Fernandez Story
  • Forward-- The Aljon Mariano Story
  • Liwanag--The Matthews Jubilado Story
  • Dasal-- The Reden Madrid Story
  • Prodigy-- The Jan Robin Ang Story
  • Hakbang-- The Edison Bernal Story
  • Lakbay-- The Rayziel Alcantara Story
  • Proposal-- The Jerald Equina Story
  • 16:11-- The Paul Quiambao Story
This is my first time seeing lots of familiar names in the film festival (There's our ABSC president, Kuya Julius, THE Aljon Mariano, Journalism student, Kuya Red, and the well praised photographer, Paul Quiambao.) so I was really curious and excited to see it. Luckily my SCL and FIL teachers required our class to watch. Yay! :D

When we entered the Audio Visual Room the organizers handed us small papers for us to write our top 3 best picture bets and here's my top 3 picks:

Best Picture

Hakbang-- The Edison Bernal Story

The story was about Edison Bernal, an Engineering student who was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma and had to undergo a surgery that rendered him without the rest of his right lower limb. Still, without losing hope he continues to live everyday happily with the dream of becoming a computer programmer in the future.

The cinematography of this was EPIC! I really like the transition and the clear shots. They also used different perspectives and angles on some of the scenes. The sequence of the story was in the most not really awkward and they laid out the story very well. The story itself was heavy and drama-centric. The casting was appropriate and their acting were better compared to others.

2nd Best Picture

16:11-- The Paul Quiambao Story

This was really good because we got to see the behind the scenes of those amazing shots that made Paul Quiambao so popular in the Thomasian community! Plus it's really touching that he really love our school :">

For those who do not know Paul Quiambao, here's his FB page wherein you can see his amazing shots!: https://www.facebook.com/paulquiambao?fref=ts

3rd Best Picture

Dasal-- The Reden Madrid Story

I was torn between Dasal and Liwanag for the third place because Liwanag's video editing was really excellent but I chose Dasal because I was really moved by the story. Seeing the jolly and loud kuya Red in the campus will never be the same again. He was once dumped into the hardest situation a student striving for his family could be in and yet, he was still able to surge forward and excel once again. Besides I think the actor was able to execute what he really wanted to portray--a person who faced every problems with a small on his face no matter how hard his situation in life may be.
